Reportedly a subsidiary of Sherman Financial Group LLC, Alegis Group LP is a collection company that purchases portfolios of both domestic and international consumer debt from credit grantors including banks, finance companies, and other debt buyers. As the new owner of any debt purchased from the original creditor or from another debt buyer, Alegis Group LP gains all rights under the original contract in order to collect the debt. For this reason, Alegis Group LP may appear on a consumer's credit report in place of the original creditor. In an attempt to collect debt, Alegis Group LP is commonly known to use very aggressive collections techniques. Alegis Group LP has been known to use techniques such as repetitive phone calls, collection letters and placing derogatory information on the consumer's credit file.
Federal law grants collection agencies the ability to place negative marks on the consumers' personal credit report, which can lower the consumers' credit score and damage their ability to obtain credit.
